Resignation leads to opening on Cros-Lex school board | #Education

Joe Vitale, the secretary of the board of education at Croswell-Lexington Community Schools, will be resigning from the board, effective July 1.

“I found it to be a rewarding experience because I graduated from Cros-Lex and my kids went there,” Vitale said. “It was more than a job to me. It was like helping my family, that family being Cros-Lex.”

Vitale is resigning because he no longer lives in the school district. The Michigan Association of School Boards rules state people must live in the school district to serve on the board of education. Vitale now resides in Port Huron.

He was appointed to the board in 2016 to fill a vacancy. Vitale was elected to the board in 2018 to serve a six-year term.

“I hope someone will take the reins and put their energy in helping our school district,” he said.
