TAYLOR, Wis. — Jackson County sheriff’s deputies arrested a 67-year-old rural Black River Falls man Wednesday on allegations of abducting a child and criminal trespassing.

Bernard L. Stubrud was arrested as deputies investigated an emergency call about the possible abduction of a 9-year-old girl shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday.
The incident took place in the Hanson Street area in the village of Taylor, with a report that the girl got into an older model Chevrolet pickup with a man estimated to be in his 60s, according to a Jackson County Sheriff’s Office news release.
During the initial response time, a grandparent located the girl with the man in the truck several blocks away. The grandparent retrieved the child without incident, but the man left before a deputy arrived.
Deputies began searching for the truck. A conservation warden located it on County Hwy. C near Cloverdale Road several miles east of Taylor, the release said.
Sheriff’s deputies responded and questioned the man about the incident and determined that Stubrud was the man they were seeking. Based on the information deputies gathered during the initial investigation, they took him into custody.
The case remains under investigation, and the news release said there is no danger to the community.
