RALEIGH, N.C. — A teacher from Sanderson High School was arrested Tuesday and charged with second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor after a months-long child pornography investigation.

A spokesperson from Wake County Public Schools said Eric Belk, 37, from Knightdale, has been suspended. The school’s website listed Belk as a science teacher.

Warrants indicate Belk was charged with 10 counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. The noted date of offense was June 15.

Belk was arrested after a joint investigation by Knightdale police and the North Carolina Bureau of Investigation. Police said they got a tip in August that indicated someone was utilizing social media platforms to download and share child pornography.

In an email to parents, Sanderson Interim Principal Kevin L. Hill said it does not appear the minor involved was a student from Sanderson High School.

Belk is being held at the Wake County Detention Center on a $500,000 secured bond.
