CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) – Sarah Keefe is a Freshman High school student who will hop on her bicycle this September and ride a cumulative 100 miles for raising money for the fight against child cancer.
Her goal stands at five hundred dollars, and thus far she has almost reached the halfway mark for her goal raising $246. She is also a part of Team Bulldog who is collectively seeking to ride 1500 miles and raise $1000 between the members.
Sarah mission is also personal. Having lost her young cousin last year at the age of 11 and has an uncle who is currently battling the disease.
Through her experiences and the impacts cancer has had on her and her family. She finds inspiration in being able to take part in the fight and raise money for lifesaving treatments and research.
Sarah says, “My uncle who isn’t really a kid but, he is right now is actually at home on bed rest dying of cancer. Then, I believe it was last year we had lost my cousin who was only 11 I believe who had passed away from cancer. So, my inspiration is just family and helping people not have to go through such things that I had to go through.”
Come September, Sarah will not be venturing alone, for her father will be joining her on her journey. They will be cycling from her home in Cheyenne to Lyons park multiple times throughout the month of September to reach the 100 miles.
Her mother Tasha is immensely proud of her daughter and as she noted she feels since of pride for her daughter. Adding, “The fact that she is taking on something that is going to help out kids live life and kids should be living life not fighting for it.”
The Great Cycle Challenge Started in 2015, where people of all ages, abilities and across the nation. Set personal riding goals and fundraising goals.
The event is normally held in June however due to Covid-19 it was pushed back to September.
The GCC’s vision is a world without cancer. Where kids are living life and not fighting for it.
