#schoolsafety | Douglas Unified School District to hold ‘Special Board Meeting’

DOUGLAS, Ariz. – Douglas Unified School District is set to hold a ‘Special Board Meeting’ on Monday.

According to the board’s agenda, there will be a discussion “regarding the lockdown and procedures employed” during last week’s incident.

The meeting is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. at the Central Administration Bldg., Board Room, 1132 12th Street.

On Friday, more than 100 Douglas High School students held a protest amid recent concerns over the soft lockdown on Oct. 9. Douglas Police Department was dispatched to the school after they received reports from faculty members that there might be a gun on campus.

After further investigation, DPD discovered that the weapon was on campus the day before, prompting the lockdown to be lifted.

The school also held a meeting for parents to discuss school safety at 5 p.m. Friday.

The district later announced that it would begin to have a clear bag policy at the high school. The new bag policy is expected to begin Oct. 21.
