Oneida County Sheriff Rob Maciol, a Democrat, endorsed Republican Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente Jr. for re-election today.
Maciol, in office since 2011, cited a strong working relationship and a series of accomplishments in his decision. Among recently implemented initiatives are eliminating an antiquated coroner system replaced with a medical examiner arrangement, consolidating the 911 center, creating a countywide records management system, drug-abuse and school safety.
“Together we have created an Animal Abuser Registry and the Opiate Task Force and placed special patrol officers in our schools, all while increasing training, recruitment and funding for the Sheriff’s Office,” Maciol said in a statement.
“Public Safety has always been my top priority as county executive,” Picente said. “I couldn’t ask for a better partner than Rob Maciol and I’m honored to have his endorsement.”
Picente has also received an endorsement by the New York State Troopers
Benevolent Association, the CNY Labor Council, IBEW, and the Independence and
Conservative Parties. He faces Democrat Michael Hennessy, a former county legislator from Sherrill who is also on the lines of the Libertarian and SAM parties, on Election Day Nov. 5.
