While teen cigarette use has plummeted, the damaging effects of tobacco use are still felt by many—even those that don’t smoke. About half of all nonsmoking teens have been exposed to secondhand smoke in the past week, and many are exposed daily, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Workplaces and public places like parks are where teens most commonly encounter secondhand smoke. Exposure increases the risk of asthma, lung infection, and heart problems.
