Parents and students said they’re scared after a series of fights broke out in Lawrence High School on Tuesday. NewsCenter 5 spoke with students who said they had witnessed three of the six fights that occurred at the school. Cellphone video of several of the fights was shared with us by students. The videos appear to show students punching, pulling and striking each other in various rooms throughout the school building. Students said a teacher was injured after being hit in the face and that one female student was taken away in handcuffs after pulling out a weapon during a fight at lunch. “This one girl jumped on another girl at our lunch table. I saw her pull out a shank and then a bunch of security guards came over, they were punching the teachers, too,” Aderlis Carty.”It’s nerve-wracking. They fear for their lives so their parents are thinking of getting them out of school and everything, because if it’s not safe, why go here?” said Jose Vargas, who has family that attends Lawrence High School. The students tell us there was an announcement made that for at least this week, students will have to eat lunch in their classrooms. NewsCenter 5 noticed a visible police presence outside the school Tuesday afternoon. Lawrence Police said the school district would be releasing a statement about the fights.
