Snapchat Leads to Felony Charges for Minnesota Teen

A fourteen-year-old girl used Snapchat to send a revealing photo to a boy she had a crush on. He took a screenshot of her Snap and sent it to other people without her permission. Now she’s facing criminal charges for distributing obscene material. If she’s convicted, she faces up to 7 years in prison and a $10,000 fine as well as registering as a sex offender for the next ten years. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has agreed to help the teen get the charges dismissed. However, the legal system hasn’t caught up with technology, and laws that are meant to protect minors also have the potential to destroy their future plans and goals.
