FAYETTE COUNTY, Iowa (KWWL) — A teacher in the Starmont Community School District is facing simple assault charges after allegedly biting a student.

According to a criminal complaint, Anita Smith, 49, took a 16-year-old student and bit their arm during a class on March 16. The bit left a red mark, bruising, and teeth marks on the student’s arm.

Smith said she was roleplaying when she rolled up the student’s sleeve and bit them. Smith is on administrative leave and is scheduled to be in court on April 7.
