Police have arrested a madrasa teacher after a video of him torturing of two minor students went viral.
Hafez Mohammad Ibrahim was arrested from Jabaley Nur Qawmi Madrasa in Sreepur, Ashulia on Monday night.
Ashulia police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Mohir Uddin confirmed the matter.
He said: “We have found evidence of child abuse. The process of filing a case has been initiated under the direction of senior officials.”
On September 11, Ibrahim brutally tortured the two students.
After the footage of the torture went viral on Facebook on Monday, there was a storm of criticism. After noticing signs of bruises on the bodies of madrasa students, the locals collected the CCTV footage from the madrasa and uploaded it on Facebook.
They later detained Ibrahim and handed him over to the police.
One of the tortured students said, his classmate could not bear Ibrahim’s torture and fled from the madrasa. As he helped that student to flee, the teacher mercilessly flogged him inside the madrasa by tying his hands and feet.
The Qawmi madrasa started residential education activities with 12 students on the fourth floor of a six-storey building two years ago, according to Dhamsona UP Member Montaz Uddin and locals.
Only Ibrahim and Hafez Obaidullah ran the institution. Obaidullah was also taken away by the police for questioning.
