UPDATE: The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Monday night that Dustin Wade Dalton, 28, of Rainsville was arrested on “multiple charges related to inappropriate behavior with students.”

Dalton was charged with enticing a child for immoral purposes and dissemination of obscene material. He’s held without bond at the DeKalb County Jail.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the case, along with the DeKalb County Board of Education and the Alabama Department of Human Resources.

“Due to the fact that this is still very early in the investigation, more charges may be added at a later date,” the sheriff’s office said in its release Monday.

One grandmother in Sylvania told WAAY 31 she is relieved to hear about his arrest.

“I’m glad he’s gone, I’m glad the teacher’s gone,” Dale Heath said.

Heath’s grandson attends Sylvania High School. She is now worried about how many victims are out there.

“They need to feel safe, rather than going to school and worrying about somebody you know might bother them, or send them something that they don’t need to be seeing,” Heath said.

However, she is pleased with how quickly the school district acted on these allegations.

“I’m happy that they got him, I’m glad they found out about, and I’ll probably go in there and call my grandson and see if he’s okay,” Heath said.

The department says if anyone feels as though they have been a victim to contact investigators at 256-845-3801.

Original story:

A teacher at Sylvania High School is no longer employed after “an internal investigation following an allegation of inappropriate behavior,” according to the school system.

The investigation began Friday, said DeKalb County Schools Superintendent Jason Barnett.

Barnett has not provided additional details about the allegations.

He did say all information gathered during the investigation has been shared with local authorities, and that the “DeKalb County Board of Education will fully cooperate with local authorities as needed.”

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office now is handling the investigation.
