Tallmadge school district reinstates mask mandate, offers COVID testing | #coronavirus | #kids. | #children | #schools

Tallmadge City Schools will once again be under a mask mandate when classes resume on Jan. 10, Superintendent Steve Wood announced on Wednesday.

The district’s nursing staff from Akron Children’s Hospital will also begin offering in-house testing in all buildings by the end of the month.

The four-week mandate comes after the district experienced its highest monthly COVID rate since the pandemic began, with 226 positive cases identified in December. The next highest month was November 2021 with 129 cases.

The district numbers correlated with the rise in COVID cases throughout Summit County and the state.

At the time, Tallmadge and other local school districts began using the Ohio Department of Health’s Mask to Stay, Test to Play policy that allowed close contacts to continue attending school in person as long as they wore a mask.
