Teacher arrested at school for domestic battery against 13-year-old – WSB-TV Channel 2 | #teacher | #children | #kids


HENRY COUNTY, Ga. — A teacher was arrested on domestic battery charges at a metro Atlanta school Wednesday.

Channel 2′s Tom Jones was at Dutchtown Middle School in Henry County on Thursday, where Demarcus Sellers, Sr. is now on administrative leave and in jail.

Police said Sellers, 34, committed domestic battery off campus against a 13-year-old boy. He now faces battery/family violence charges.

“The child made an outcry to one of the school officials,” Henry County Sheriff’s Office Maj. Antonio Catlin said.

Police would not provide any more details on what happened or Sellers’ relationship to the child.

Parent Akila Gray said it makes her wonder if her child is safe at school.

“It just makes you worry about your child being at school,” Gray said. “You don’t know who these people really are.”

Cheryl Shaw, a grandparent at the school, said teachers are human, but they have to be able to keep their cool when confronting children.

You have to have some emotional intelligence and say walk away,” Shaw said. “Call somebody.”

The school system said it could not say much about the incident except to say that it is under investigation and the teacher is on administrative leave.
