TOWN OF BRUNSWICK, Wis. (WEAU) – A former teacher has been charged with repeated sexual assault of a child.
On Tuesday, the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office arrested 72-year-old Roger Sahs, a former teacher at Eau Claire Memorial High School and McDonell Central High School who has been substitute teaching in the Eau Claire Area School District since February.
Last October, the Sheriff’s Office took a report from a woman who told detectives that she had been sexually assaulted multiple times by Sahs beginning when she was 7 years old and occurred most recently when she was 8 years old.
Sahs denied the allegations, and told detectives that he was ‘taken aback’ by the charges.
No other information is being released about the alleged victim, due to the victim being a child at the time of the reported incident.
There is no information that there were additional victims, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
According to a statement from the Eau Claire Area School District, Sahs passed a criminal background check before being employed as a substitute teacher for eight days of the 2020-21 school year. The ECASD says that even though the alleged crimes did not involve ECASD students, they have removed Sahs from the substitute teaching list and he will not be allowed on school property.
The ECASD also confirmed that Sahs worked at Memorial High School from 1973 until 2003.
In a statement from McDonell Area Catholic Schools, the school says that the allegations did not involve any McDonell student and were not related to his time as an employee of the school.
