#teacher | Former Slidell High substitute teacher arrested for carnal knowledge of juvenile | Crime/Police

Joshua Brewer, a 28-year-old Slidell man who had been working as a long-term substitute teacher at Slidell High School, was booked into St. Tammany Parish Jail on Wednesday on one count of carnal knowledge of a juvenile.

St. Tammany public schools spokeswoman Meredith Mendez said that Brewer is no longer employed by the system and that he was terminated prior to his arrest.

She would not say whether the victim was a student at the school. She said her understanding was that Brewer and the juvenile communicated via a social media app.

A family member of the victim had reached out to the state Department of Child and Family Services, and that agency notified the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, which launched an investigation, sheriff’s spokesman Capt. Scott Lee said.

Brewer’s bail was set at $30,000.
