St. Tammany public schools spokeswoman Meredith Mendez said that Brewer is no longer employed by the system and that he was terminated prior to his arrest.
She would not say whether the victim was a student at the school. She said her understanding was that Brewer and the juvenile communicated via a social media app.
A family member of the victim had reached out to the state Department of Child and Family Services, and that agency notified the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, which launched an investigation, sheriff’s spokesman Capt. Scott Lee said.
Brewer’s bail was set at $30,000.
