#teacher | High school teacher sent sexual photos, messages to student, police say

A Watchung Hills Regional High School social studies teacher was arrested last week for sending sexual photos and messages to a student, officials said.

Sean DiGiovanna, 50, of Somerset, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and promoting obscene material to a child, the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office announced Tuesday.

The Warren Township Police got a report on Sept. 11 that a teacher at the school, which services children from three nearby towns, sent “sexually-explicit” photos of himself and texts saying he wanted to pursue a sexual relationship to a student, prosecutors said.

Investigators obtained warrants and searched DiGiovanna’s phone and social media accounts and found the texts and photos, authorities said.

On Oct. 10, detectives arrested DiGiovanna at Warren Township Police headquarters and he was lodged in Somserset County Jail pending his detention hearing, according to a statement from the prosecutor’s office.

Anyone with information about the case was asked to contact the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office at 908-231-7100 or the Warren Township Police Department at 908-753-1000.
