Teen arrested for bathroom-wall threats at Port Charlotte school

A 15-year-old boy was arrested Monday in connection with threats at a Charlotte County school.

Deputies say Kenneth Kasten is responsible for writing messages on a bathroom wall warning of a shooting at The Academy School on two different dates.

The first incident, on April 7th, prompted the school officials to increase security and lead to more than 100 students missing school.

The second threat was discovered by a student on Monday, warning of a shooting on April 22nd.

School resource officers reviewed surveillance video and identified Kasten as the suspect, saying he was the only student who entered the bathroom during the time frame the message was written.

Deputies say Kasten admitted to writing both threats and provided the pen that he used.

He was taken into custody and charged with false reports concerning the use of a firearm in a violent manner against state-owned property.

He has also been suspended from school for 10 days, according to the arrest report.
