A teenager has been charged with the murder of 15-year-old Alan Cartwright, who was stabbed to death last Friday as he cycled in Islington with his friends.
Joshua Williams, 18, of Davenant Road, Islington, is set to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court tomorrow accused of murder and conspiracy to rob.
The development comes as Alan’s friends and family hold a vigil tonight on Caledonian Road, near to the spot where the schoolboy was fatally stabbed.
It also follows an emotional appeal by his family for witnesses to come forward to help track down his killers.
Earlier this week police released shocking footage of the moment the Alan was stabbed in the chest as he cycled with friends along the busy road in Islington.
He managed to continue riding a short distance after the attack on Friday, but collapsed and was later pronounced dead at the scene.
A second suspect is shown lunging at one of the teenager’s friends and knocking him off his bike, while a third crosses the road and grabs another friend to pull him off his bicycle.
Three other teenagers have been arrested as part of Scotland Yard’s investigation.
An 18-year-old man remains in custody after a warrant of further detention was granted, the force said.
A 17-year-old boy and a 21-year-old man have been bailed.
