A teenager has been charged with stabbing after an altercation in Peter Depena Reserve, Dolls Point.

The incident occurred on Thursday night during an end-of-year celebration by Year 12 students, but police say neither the assailant nor victim was a student.

A police statement said a group of Year 12 students gathered in the park about 7.30pm to celebrate the end of school.

“Around 10.20pm, emergency services were called to the park following reports a male had been stabbed,” the statement said.

“Police have been told there was an altercation near the public toilets in the park between a 19-year-old male, who was not a student, and a male described as being of Middle Eastern appearance, who was not known to any of the students.

“The 19-year-old received a stab wound to the lower abdomen. He was treated at the scene by ambulance paramedics and was later transported to St George Hospital for surgery.”

Following an investigation by St George police, an 18-year-old youth was arrested at a unit in Monterey yesterday (Friday).

He was taken to St George Police Station and charged with two offences – wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and armed with intent to commit an indictable offence.

He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday).
