A married father-of-two who claimed he was ‘probably on coke’ when he asked a 13-year-old girl to have sex with him has been jailed for three years.
John Bean, 40, was unaware he was in contact with a member of a group of paedophile hunters known as ‘Broken Dreams’ when he sent six explicit photos on WhatsApp last year.
Today at the Old Bailey, prosecutor Garry Rutter said: ‘Broken Dreams performed what was essentially a citizen’s arrest on the defendant. The group asked him questions such as what he had been doing and what he had engaged in.’
Bean, of Enfield, north London, was filmed telling the group: ‘I ain’t done nothing wrong. I was never going to do anything.
‘I was probably on coke. I was just being stupid. I was drunk.’
The recording has now been viewed over 77,000 times on Facebook.

When confronted, Mr Bean claimed he was innocent and said: ‘I was probably on coke. I was just being stupid. I was drunk’
Broken Dreams live streamed their capture on Facebook and the 35-minute confrontation amassed 5,600 comments.
Avirup Chaudhuri, defending, told the court: ‘His offending has very much been put on display by the public.
‘He has been ostracised by friends and is rarely seen by anyone.’
Judge Nigel Lickley, QC, told Bean: ‘Your actions were planned and sexually motivated, and there was grooming.
‘The offences were limited to one occasion, however it was over a period of time towards the same person.
‘Your offences are so serious that only an immediate custodial sentence is warranted.’
Bean admitted attempting to incite girl aged 13 to have sex with him, attempting to cause a child under the age of 14 to take photos of a sexual nature and attempting sexual communication with a girl aged 13.
The offences dated from between October 9 and November 12 last year.
Wearing a black jumper and dark jeans, Bean hung his head in shame as he was jailed for a total of three years and one month.
