The district-wide lockdown of Shoreline schools has been lifted, according to a tweet for DB Gates of the King County Sheriff’s Office.  Police will remain at schools until all children are released.

A Meridian Park Elementary school employee alarmed by seeing a suspicious man with a firearm on school grounds at 7:50 a.m. reported the incident, which led to the lockdown of Shoreline schools, according to DB Gates,  the spokeswoman for King County Sheriff’s Office.

“That employee became alarmed and went inside and reported it immediately,” Gates said.

Classes were not in session at Meridian Park at the time of the incident and very few children were at the school, she said. The building was immediately placed in lockdown.

The school was searched and law agencies cleared the perimeter. Seattle Police K-9 units searched as well, but did not locate the suspicious person, who was reported to be wearing camo pants and a black hoodie.

”He had dark hoodie on and the hood was pulled up, so our witness didn’t get a good look at his face to even say hair color or anything like that,” Gates said.

In consultation with the district, authorities put all of the Shoreline schools on lockdown and classes were canceled for the day.

Due to police activity, all recreation programs at Spartan Recreation Center and Shoreline Pool were suspended until noon Wednesday.
