Social media is often a tool for bullying and hate speech. To address this problem, Twitter has introduced a “mute” feature that allows users to silence content in their feeds if it includes certain words, phrases, or emojis. The feature will hide abusive messages in cases where someone is specifically targeted. The social media platform is also adding new ways for users to flag “hateful content” like racist or sexist speech. Twitter staff have undergone training to better handle hate speech and other forms of harassment.
