Two Mehlville School District residents filed their candidacy for two positions in the April 6 election on the Mehlville Board of Education, incumbent Tori Behlke and Patrick McKelvey, a newcomer to the board.

Typically, when the number of candidates who file is the same as the number of positions to be filled, then there is no election. However, under the provisions of Missouri Statute Section 115.124, the Board of Education election will appear on the ballot because the district is also placing bond issue Proposition S on the ballot. Prop S is a no-tax-rate-increase bond issue that if passed would allow the district to make facilities improvements to address safety and infrastructure needs.

The new board members will be sworn in during the April organizational meeting of the Board of Education. The two new members will each serve three-year terms.

Behlke was first elected to the board in 2018 alongside Lisa Messmer. Messmer did not file for re-election. To read more about what Behlke said about the school district when she first ran for election, see The Call’s 2018 school board questionnaire.
