Winter Haven woman accused of throwing baby across room

A 30-year-old Winter Haven woman is accused of throwing a 7-month-old across a living room, breaking his arm and fracturing his leg.

Jeri Lorraine Sorenson, of 291 Cherry Laurel Lane in Winter Haven, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of aggravated child abuse.
While Sorenson was visiting a friend in Lake Wales on Jan. 29, she got frustrated with the baby’s crying and picked him up by his arm and threw him across the living room, reports said.
He struck a love seat with a wooden rail and screamed out in pain, reports said. A witness, Michelle Ferrell, said the scream was horrific.
Sorenson’s friends told her to take the 7-month-old to the hospital but she refused, reports said.
On Jan. 31, she finally listened and took the child to Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center, where it was discovered he had a broken right arm and his right leg was fractured above and below the knee.
The child was then transported to Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando for further treatment, reports said.
Sorenson was arrested and taken to the Polk County Jail.
