Woman accused of abducting child, setting off Amber Alert | #childabductors

Boone County prosecutors have charged a woman accused of abducting a child linked to an Amber Alert that was sent out Saturday night.

Blythe Wells, 33, of Columbia faces charges of kidnapping and tampering with a motor vehicle.

Boone County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Jessica Caldera told ABC 17 News Wells is charged with abducting a 14-day-old child after allegedly stealing an SUV from a liquor store.

Wells’ probable cause statement said the vehicle was left running and unlocked outside of the business at 208 Cedar Lake Drive. The court document said Wells left the building and drove away in the vehicle.

Mid-Missouri law enforcement arrested Wells in Ashland.

Court documents say Wells told officers she didn’t know the child was inside the SUV.

State troopers said the baby was found safe in the vehicle.

Boone County Jail records show Wells was in custody as of Monday morning.

Online court records show Wells’ bond was set at $20,000. Those records don’t list an attorney for her.
