He said a female family member got upset and punched him several times. The boy said the woman called him names while she struck him with an open hand.
He said his nose began to bleed, so he was sent to the bathroom to clean up.
He said he got blood on the bathroom floor, and the woman got onto him for it, hitting him in the face.
While he demonstrated how he was hit, detectives noticed more injuries on the child’s lip and under his nose.
The boy said he did not want to tell the truth because the woman told him that if he did, he would get sent away and would be far away from her.
Wichita Falls police identification technicians photographed the child’s injuries.
The woman told detectives the male family member was cutting branches off a tree and one of the branches hit the child in the face.
She said she told the child to come inside after seeing him climb on a ladder. She told the detectives she spanked him before the branch fell on him.
The woman later changed her story and also told detectives she wasn’t sure what happened with the branch because she wasn’t outside when the incident happened.
She denied causing the boy’s injuries but told detectives she slapped him in the mouth while they were in the car and caused the boy one injury.
A warrant was issued, and deputies arrested Laura Hinojosa Moran on Wednesday. She is charged with injury to a child, a third-degree felony.
Moran was free Thursday from Wichita County Jail on a $75,000 bond, according to online jail records.
