The Sheriff’s Office reports Starletta Blevins, 49, was arrested Tuesday and charged with 2nd degree murder. Investigators say Blevins gave her 16-year-old daughter, Kaylynn Moore, crushed prescription drugs on Christmas Eve. The girl overdosed and died. During the course of the investigation, deputies found suspected controlled substances and drug paraphernalia. Officers also removed a ten-year-old from the home, and placed the child in the custody of the children’s services division because of the volume of drug use taking place inside the residence and the unsanitary conditions.
“I have seen a lot of poor parenting in my lifetime, but this is the worst I have ever seen,” said Maries County Sheriff Chris Heitman. “It is sad that drugs have caused the senseless death of this young girl, and being a father makes this case even harder.” Heitman also said the victim’s sister died of a drug overdose at age 15 in 2003.
