Kottayam: Police claim that the woman who kidnapped a newborn from the gynaecology ward in Govt Medical College hospital, Kottayam, had only personal intentions. Kalamassery native Neethu was nabbed on Thursday for abducting the infant from the mother in the guise of a nurse.
Police have taken one more person in custody according to the statement given by Neethu. Ibrahim Badusha from Kakkanad was brought from Ernakulam to Kottayam for a detailed probe. In the primary interrogation, Neethu revealed that she abducted the child to blackmail Ibrahim.
Neethu and Ibrahim had a close relationship. But Ibrahim’s decision to marry another person disturbed her and she plotted to blackmail him by claiming the kidnapped child was theirs. Both of them were working together and they were in a relationship. Even though she conceived from Ibrahim, she decided to abort. Her husband is working abroad and when police interrogated his parents, they were found ignorant of the child abduction and all the narratives of Neethu.
Ibrahim and Neethu will be questioned together under the district police chief D Shilpa at Gandhi Nagar police station.
Kottayam SP D Shilpa asserted that the child was found due to the timely interventions of police. Instructions to inspect vehicles and lodges were given immediately after the police received a complaint. Following this, police got a phone call stating that a woman was spotted with an infant in the nearby lodge under suspicious circumstances. Police promptly reached the spot, obtained the child and arrested the lady.
